Getting started
How do I make my first card?
- Create a free account. The person who signs up is the account owner.
- On the Company page, add your logo and pick your card color.
- On the Printers page, connect the PC your card printer is attached to (see below).
- Choose New card, pick a layout, type the cardholder's details, add a photo and choose Save and print.
Which layouts are there?
Four standard layouts with a photo, name, title and User ID (a barcode for members, the number for free accounts): landscape or portrait, each either single-sided (front only) or double-sided (with a back that says who the card belongs to). Members can also design their own.
Can my coworkers have their own logins?
Yes. The owner adds them on the Company page. Owners manage everything, Operators make and print cards, and Viewers can look but not change anything.
Printers and printing
Which printers work?
ZoomCreds prints to IDP SMART card printers (the Smart-30, 31, 50, 51, 70 and 81) through ZoomCreds Connect, a small Windows program on the PC attached to the printer. Two-sided layouts need a printer with the flipper; magnetic stripes need a printer with a magnetic encoder.
How do I connect my printer?
- Install the printer's normal Windows driver and print a test page from Windows first.
- In ZoomCreds, go to Printers and choose Add a printer. On the printer's PC, download ZoomCreds Connect from there and run it. It links itself to your company.
- Back on the Printers page, approve the new PC. Until an owner approves it, it can't print anything. Owners also get an email whenever a PC is linked.
Already installed, or copied the download to another PC more than an hour later? Choose Show a code under Add a printer and type the 8-character code into ZoomCreds Connect (Account page). The code works once and lasts an hour; a PC linked with a typed code prints straight away.
ZoomCreds Connect runs in the background and starts with Windows. Cards you send while the PC is off print as soon as it's back on.
My printer shows "offline".
ZoomCreds Connect on the printer's PC isn't connected. Check the PC is on and online, and that the "ZoomCreds Connect" service is running (in Windows Services). Cards already sent wait and print when it reconnects.
Can I print lots of cards at once?
Yes. On the Cards page, tick the cards you want (or tick the box at the top to select them all) and choose Print selected. They're sent as one order and print one after another.
Does printing cost anything?
No. Printing on your own printer is free, including reprints. Paid extras, such as magnetic stripe encoding or cards ordered from Highpower, show their price before you order.
Prox cards and magnetic stripes
What is a prox card?
A 125 kHz proximity card that opens doors when held near a reader. Each card carries a number in a format your access control system expects, such as HID 26-bit H10301, usually as a facility code plus a card number. Ask your access control installer which format and facility code to use.
How do I order prox cards?
Open a card, expand Prox and magnetic stripe, choose the format and enter the numbers (Next fills in the next unused card number). To number many cards at once, tick them on the Cards page and choose Assign prox numbers. Then print and choose Order from Highpower: prox cards are encoded and checked at Highpower and shipped to you.
Can two cards have the same prox number?
No. ZoomCreds won't save a card whose format, facility code and card number are already used by another card in your account, so a lost card can be revoked without locking out someone else.
How do magnetic stripes work?
Any card can have track 1, 2 and 3 data. Encoding it on your own printer needs a membership; anyone can order magnetic stripe cards from Highpower. The stripe is written and read back to check it while the card prints, on your own printer if it has a magnetic encoder, or when you order from Highpower. Track 1 takes letters, numbers and common punctuation; tracks 2 and 3 take digits and "=".
What does encoding cost?
On your own printer, encoding is charged the first time each card's stripe is encoded, and reprints are free. Every card ordered from Highpower is a new card, so it's charged in full (card, encoding and shipping), reprints included.
Ordering cards from Highpower
How does ordering from Highpower work?
Choose Order from Highpower when you print. You pay for the cards, any first-time encoding and shipping, plus sales tax where it applies. We print and encode the cards, check every prox chip and stripe, and email you the tracking number when they ship.
What if a card comes out wrong?
If a card fails at our end, we make it again before shipping. If it can't be made, that card is refunded. Contact support about anything that arrives damaged.
Cards and photos
How do I crop a photo?
After you choose a photo in the card editor, a crop window opens. Drag the photo to move it, zoom with the slider or mouse wheel, and keep the face inside the oval. You can crop again later with Crop photo; the original photo is kept so nothing is lost.
What photos work best?
A clear, front-facing head-and-shoulders photo against a plain background, as a JPG or PNG up to 8 MB. Phone photos are fine; they're turned the right way up automatically.
How long are my cards kept?
Without a membership, each card is erased 90 days after it was last created, edited or printed. Editing or printing a card starts its 90 days again. Members' cards are kept for as long as the membership lasts. The Cards page shows when each card will be erased.
Can I add many cards at once from a spreadsheet?
Members can. On the Cards page, choose Import, upload an Excel or CSV file with one row per cardholder, match the columns to the card's fields, and optionally upload a ZIP file of photos. See membership
A barcode won't save.
Each barcode type accepts certain characters. Code 39 takes capital letters, numbers and a few symbols (- . $ / + % and space). Code 128 takes any ordinary keyboard characters. Interleaved 2 of 5 takes numbers only.
Membership and billing
What does membership include?
Your cards kept on file for as long as you're a member, your own card layouts with the drag-and-drop designer, bulk import from spreadsheets, reports, and backups you can download and restore. See the details
How do I back up my cards?
Members can go to Company, then Backup and restore, and download one ZIP file with every card, photo and custom layout. To put the data back, upload the same file on that page; you'll see what will change before anything is saved, and nothing already on the site is deleted. See membership
How do I cancel?
On the Company page, turn off automatic renewal. Your membership stays active until the end of the month you've paid for. Afterwards your cards are kept for 90 days, then erased.
Do you charge sales tax?
In some states. Tax depends on your billing address, which you enter on the Company page, and is shown before you pay.
My payment didn't go through.
We email the account owners and keep trying for a week. Replace your billing card on the Company page to fix it.
Your login and security
I forgot my password.
On the login page, choose Forgot your password? and we'll email you a link to set a new one.
How do I turn on two-step sign-in?
Go to My login, then Two-step sign-in, and scan the QR code with an authenticator app such as Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator. After that, signing in needs your password plus a 6-digit code from the app. Save your recovery codes in case you lose your phone.
I lost the phone with my authenticator app.
Sign in with one of your recovery codes, then set up the app again. If you have no recovery codes left, ask your account owner to contact Highpower support, who can turn two-step sign-in off after confirming who you are.
Can Highpower see my cards?
Only to help when you ask for support or to keep the service running. Each time Highpower support looks at your cards it's recorded in your account's activity log. See the Privacy Policy.
